Here is my speech @ the APD gun rally – notice the lawyer before me declines to speak so he doesn’t have to shout over Alex Jones. Sad :( This is after Alex followed us to the other side of the building (he was shouting down our first speakers, too)

Activist ejected from "public" meeting on secret copyright treaty for tweetingThe latest round of negotiations over the Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement ACTA — a secret treaty that contains provisions requiring nations to wiretap the Internet, force ISPs to spy on users, search laptops at the border, and disconnect whole households from the net on the basis of mere accusation of copyright infringement is just kicking off in Mexico, and activists from around Mexico and the world have converged on the meeting to demand transparent, public negotiations of this critical treaty.True to the secretive, crony-capitalist nature of this treaty, the organizers have done everything they can to harass and intimidate observers. Attendees at the so-called "public meeting" were booed by representatives from big business, and they ejected an activist for using Twitter to post updates on what was being said in the room. There was even an effort to force members of the public who attended the meeting to sign non-disclosure agreements, though outrage forced them to reconsider. This is not how the world makes its copyright laws. In years gone by, copyright treaties were made by the UN, in full sight of NGOs, the public and the press. Now that copyright touches everything we do on the Internet — from political organizing to health care to basic education and communication — we need more transparency and due process, not a retreat to smoke-filled rooms where lobbyists from privileged industry groups do an end-run around democratic process.

THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! GRASSROOTS PROTEST AND THE FUTURE OF LOCAL POLITICS!!!

Today I stopped by the Liberty Restoration Project Red Light Camera Protest and I was impressed.

Over the past few years I’ve noticed a lot more people organizing through the Internets and even old school grass roots methods because local politicos haven’t offered much in the way of leadership. This dedicated group is a great example of a few pissed off locals rallying on a subject that is evoking the ire of quite a few locals.

More importantly, I think grass roots organizing via the Internet is only going to grow more important as (by and large) the current crop of politicos in power (still) seem to be disconnected with what the vast majority of people on the street are thinking. I was talking with a rather well-connected professional working for a bit of change in his community today and he spoke of his efforts to simply, “bypass the leadership and go straight to the people.” That’s a sentiment I’m hearing more often nowadays and I can’t help but think that the local Internet is going to play some role . . . Don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to be all sunshine and flowers . . . Local politics moving to the Internets definitely means more fighting, nastiness and divisive content online but it also puts more hands into individuals and small time operators who also want to aggregate and congregate online like so many recent political campaigns.

Movement In Favor of Neo-Con Lamar Smith's Endorsement for His Re-election Campaign

Dr. Ron Paul, who has been elected to office 10 times in the 14th District of Texas for his ardent defense of individual liberty and Austrian economics, opposition to the Federal Reserve, his opposition to the rising control of Neocons and their support for the Iraq war, and his opposition to a foreign policy of interventionism (namely his opposition to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq), has come out in support of Lamar Smith, a conservative Republican congresscritter in the 21st District.

Here's a YouTube of anarcho-capitalist John Bush at the C4L Regional Conference in Atlanta, Georgia last night, asking why Ron is supporting a Neo-Con:

Katie Wilhite Brewer's quote from Ron Paul's answer to Bush is of the following:

I'm a republican, I made a commitment to support the Republican incumbents in texas. I'm the most independent republican in the GOP but you can only get away with so much independence.

She then replied to that quote with the following:

Wow! There you have it folks. YouTube video will be out soon.

Smith, a Neo-Con who has voted for a resolution calling for the "Use of Military of Force" against Iraq on October 10, 2002 and voted for the bailout for the banks last fall, has a deal with Paul, saying that he will endorse and support Ron's campaign for re-election if Paul returns the favor. The idea is that Ron needs Smith's support, because if he doesn't, then he will lose his seat to a progressive Democratic challenger in the U.S. congressional race. Another reason is that, if Paul doesn't do it, then he will be forced out of the GOP, thus losing his seat on the Finances Services and his seat as a Ranking Member of the Domestic Policy Sub Committee.

A Ron Paul sycophant by the name of Brandon Trent (who sounds more like a GOP loyalist and stalwart in his responses to the irate pro-Liberty activists who were disheartened and disappointed by Ron's statement quoted Katie's Facebook page) tries to justify and rationalizes Paul's decision with the following quote in the comments section of the thread:

Brandon Trent

here's the thing; think rationally for a moment; how much good could Ron Paul do if he is expelled from the party; he would lose his status as a senior member of the Financial Services Committee; including his position as Ranking member of the Domestic Policy Sub Committee…..I'd rather have him in the Republican Party with some clout than out of the Republican Party with absolutely no clout what so ever. Politics is a dirty game; and Im sure Lamar Alexander will in some way return the favor

Boone County Sheriff's Department to receive new investigative device

COLUMBIA — The ability to peer deep into cellular phones and other mobile devices soon will become part of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department investigatory arsenal.

The department will spend $3,999 on a gizmo that carries an extravagant name. The Universal Forensics Extraction Device, or UFED, is manufactured by CelleBrite, a leading company in the transfer and backup of mobile content. It also sells UFEDs to law enforcement agencies worldwide, according to CelleBrite’s Web site.

The Boone County Commission approved the purchase Tuesday morning. The Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force will use the device to copy cell phone data — including phone numbers, contacts, pictures, videos, text messages, call logs and even some information the phone owner thinks has been deleted — that might be useful in its investigations.

The UFED is a “known device in forensics investigation tools,” Detective Tracy Perkins of the task force said.

The Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force focuses much of its resources on child exploitation, serving Boone and the seven surrounding counties. Perkins said the device will be used by the task force lab in a wide variety of investigations.

Having their own UFED will “save a lot of time and travel for the officers involved,” Perkins said. Until now, the task force has had to travel elsewhere to borrow another agency’s UFED.

The ability to extract data from mobile devices raises some privacy concerns.

“Cell phone privacy issues all depend on the case,” Perkins said. With written permission of the user, investigators can access the phone; without it, they would have to get permission from the courts.

The UFED is about the size of a desk phone. Operating as a stand-alone unit or tethered to a computer, the device comes with a host of cables to plug into nearly 2,000 mobile devices, or 95 percent of all marketed cell phones, according to CelleBrite’s Web site.

The purchase is part of requirements for the Multi-Jurisdiction Cyber Crime Grant, which provides federal money through the Missouri Department of Public Safety, according to the county purchase request.

Since these Governors control the National Guard, State Police, etc in their own states, will this be a means of insuring joint efforts to control the population at the direction of the 'p'resident??

This is very scary and looks to me like just another means of controlling people? Governors are and must remained independent of 'p'residential control.

Questions: is this Constitutional? ? ? Will appointees be divided between Republicans and Democrats and what about Independents, Conservatives, etc? ? ? Is this a Command and Control Council? ?

Thanks to GIT-R-DONE for posting this.

Sadly, KC Star Plays True to Form on E Tax[ Patrick Tuohey ]Kansas City, indeed all of Missouri, may soon be debating the basics of how cities collect taxes. This is an important debate, and it really hasn't even begun. As Star reporter Dave Helling notes, the ballot initiative that is put forward may exclude Kansas City. But that hasn't stopped The Star and The Pitch from using their vaunted positions in the community to take personal cheap shots. Specifically, the Star's editorial board embarrassed itself today with a nasty piece about those with whom it disagrees on the issue. It begins: Rex Sinquefield wants to kill Kansas City’s earnings tax, and that’s his right as a private citizen. He’s a multimillionaire ideologue who doesn’t have to care about how his goal would affect the city’s future. This is rank class warfare. The Star chooses to describe Sinquefield only as a "multimillionaire ideologue." The Star omits mention that Sinquefield is a self-made man who grew up in an orphanage in Normandy, Missouri and once studied in the seminary. It omits mention that Sinquefield sits on the boards of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Art Museum, and the Missouri Botanical Garden–but it suggests that he doesn't care about the city's future. Why? I suspect that "self-made multimillionaire philanthropist" doesn't fit The Star's obvious desire to characterize him as a bogeyman. The Star saves its more deliberate and personal attacks for Mayor Mark Funkhouser the candidate it endorsed in 2007. It quotes the mayor as saying, "The central problem is our inability to keep middle-class and upper-class folks in Kansas City. Over the long run, if this repeal would do that for us, then I’m for it." It then excoriates him for not offering a, "shred of evidence that killing a $200 million funding source would meet his objectives of retaining residents." Remember, this is relating to a ballot initiative campaign that has not yet begun and which may never even include Kansas City.
