AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry today sent a letter asking other governors to join him in ongoing efforts to assert the constitutional rights of states as guaranteed under the 10th Amendment with regard to the federal health care bill being forced through by Congress. He urged the governors to support and join efforts by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and several other state attorneys general to determine the constitutionality of a compromise in the pending federal health care legislation exempting the state of Nebraska from increased Medicaid costs resulting from the bill’s passage.

"As the chief executive officers of our individual sovereign states, we must stand up to this unprecedented intrusion in to our lives and the rights of our citizens. We must demonstrate resolve in the face of this infringement,” Gov. Perry wrote in the letter. “Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is joining with several other state attorneys general to place this deal under proper scrutiny, to determine if such an exclusion is unconstitutional. His office, along with mine, will continue to explore all options available to us as we attempt to minimize the damages that can be caused to Texans by this ill-advised piece of legislation."

In Texas, this health care bill will cost up to $21 billion over the next 10 years, adding an estimated 2 million more people to our Medicaid rolls.

In his letter the governor emphasized that this bill will impose unprecedented intrusion in to the lives and the rights of citizens by mandating that every American purchase health care coverage or face penalties. Additionally, taxpayers in Texas and in most other states will pay even more to effectively subsidize expanded Medicaid for Nebraska and select states that caught additional sweeteners on issues like rural health care and Medicare Advantage for some seniors in a few states.

I am PROUD to say Missouri overturned real ID as well. Indeed, the feds intend to stop folks who do not have a National Real ID card from boarding planes, opening bank accounts, or going into federal buildings. Will they really try to pull this with Missouri Residents and over 1/2 the states in the union?

I look forward to them trying. Maybe then we’ll end the TSA and federal flying regulations? What will they do shoot down planes that are flying residents from states who did not comply with Real ID?

hmmmm

Because of New Mexico's non-compliance with Real ID, federal agencies will be prohibited from accepting after Dec. 31 a New Mexico driver's license or other state-issued identification cards as an “official” document to access federal facilities, board federally regulated commercial aircraft or enter nuclear power plants.

New Mexico residents will essentially be considered foreigners as of Jan. 1.

no-noMissouri State Representative Cynthia Davis has introduced the “Firearms Freedom Act” (HB1230) – prefiled for the 2010 legislative session. The bill “Asserts the right of the State of Missouri to regulate the intrastate use and acquisition of certain firearms pursuant to the reserved powers of the state over intrastate commerce and the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”

While the bill’s title focuses solely federal gun regulations, it has far more to do with the 10th Amendment’s mandate that powers not delegated to the federal government are “reserved to the states, respectively, or to the people.” It states:

Amendment X of the Constitution of the United States guarantees to the states and their people all powers not granted to the federal government elsewhere in the Constitution and reserves to the state and people of Missouri certain powers as they were understood at the time that Missouri was admitted to statehood. The guarantee of those powers is a matter of contract between the state and people of Missouri and the United States as of the time that the compact with the United States was agreed upon and adopted by Missouri and the United State

Amendment II of the Constitution of the United States reserves to the people the right to keep and bear arms as that right was understood at the time that Missouri was admitted to statehood, and the guarantee of the right is a matter of contract between the state and people of Missouri and the United States as of the time that the compact with the United States was agreed upon and adopted by Missouri and the United States

Some supporters of the legislation say that a successful application of such a state-law would set a strong precedent and open the door for states to take their own positions on a wide range of activities that they see as not being authorized to the Federal Government by the Constitution.

I have been at the Continental Congress in St. Charles, IL for several days now. This has been one of the most productive and fruitful experiences of my life, and it is only 1/3 over!

I am working hard with the privacy committee to develop strategies to fight fusion centers in your own state.

John Bush, a successful activist and the executive director of Texans for Accountable Government, speaks on the importance of privacy.
